(Dublin, Ohio) — Drivers in Dublin should prepare to slow down on Riverside Drive near Riverside Crossing Park and the Bridge Park neighborhood. Dublin City Council voted to establish the Bridge Street/Riverside Drive Business District to create safer, more comfortable streets. As part of this effort, the speed limit will decrease from 40 to 25 miles per hour on Riverside Drive between Martin Road and Tuller Road. The new speed limit will take effect Oct. 12, with enforcement set to begin Oct. 30.
Approximately 30,000 vehicles travel along this stretch of roadway each day, and the City wants to ensure the area’s speed limit supports safe pedestrian and traffic operations and reflects current conditions. The Riverside Drive corridor has changed significantly since the speed limit was set in 2004. As the area has grown to include Bridge Park, Riverside Crossing Park and The Dublin Link pedestrian bridge, it draws substantial pedestrian and vehicular traffic to the vibrant, walkable district.
“The newly designated business district is part of the City’s Speed Management Program to create safe and comfortable streets for all residents and road users across Dublin, including pedestrians,” Director of Transportation & Mobility Jeannie Willis says. “A business district establishes reasonable speed limits on the roadways. Whether you walk, drive, roll or stroll through Dublin, your safety as our resident, workforce member or visitor is our top priority.”
Drivers along Riverside Drive will see speed-trailer signs that indicate an upcoming change in the speed limit. Dublin Police officers will work to proactively educate drivers about the new speed limit before enforcement begins Oct. 30.
“When you drive in Dublin, your Dublin Police officers want you to feel a sense of security on the roads,” Deputy Chief Greg Lattanzi says. “By reducing speed on Riverside Drive, we can facilitate behavior changes in drivers that will help reduce traffic crashes while contributing to the overall safety of our community.”
Dublin’s Speed Management Program was adopted in response to residents’ concerns about speeding. As part of the program, the City is launching Slow Down Dublin, a community partnership that strives to create safe and comfortable streets for all. Residents are encouraged to get involved by engaging with the City’s social media posts, displaying yard signs, reporting speeding to the City and, most importantly, by slowing down.
